The Vaal Rhebok (Pelea capreolus), also known as the grey rhebok, is a medium-sized antelope endemic to South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini. It inhabits mountainous grasslands and plateaus, typically at elevations between 1,400 and 3,300 meters above sea level.

Physical Description
Vaal Rheboks have a woolly grey coat that provides insulation against cold temperatures. They possess slender bodies, long necks, and narrow ears. Only males carry horns, which are straight, slender, and ringed at the base, measuring approximately 15–20 cm in length.

These antelopes are primarily browsers, feeding on leaves, fruits, and other vegetation. They are known for their agility and endurance, often navigating steep and rocky terrains with ease. Vaal Rheboks are territorial, with males becoming aggressive during the breeding season.

The Vaal Rhebok is listed as “Near Threatened” by the IUCN due to a significant population decline over recent generations, primarily within protected areas.
