Overview
The black wildebeest is known for its distinctive dark brown to black coat, long white horse-like tail, and dark hair under its belly and forelegs.

Key Features:
Size: Males stand 111–121 cm (44–48 in) at the shoulder, while females are 106–116 cm (42–46 in).

Speed: Can reach up to 80 km/h (50 mph).

Behaviour:
Diet: Primarily grazes on grasses and requires regular access to water.

Social Structure: Three main groups—female herds, bachelor herds, and territorial bulls.

Activity: Active in early morning and late afternoon; rests during the hottest part of the day.

Communication: Uses pheromones, vocalizations (like a metallic snort or “hick”), and body language to communicate.

Lifespan: Approximately 20 years in the wild.

Habitat: Prefers open plains and grasslands across southern Africa.
